Labels & badges: new, coming soon, sale
Add helpful product cues without making your grid feel spammy.
Badges work when they add clarity. They fail when they become noise.
Badges worth using
- Sale (driven by compare-at price)
- New (time-based or tag-based)
- Back in stock (when meaningful)
- Coming soon (only if you capture intent, e.g. notify me)
Keep rules simple
Pick one approach per badge:
- Tag-driven (e.g. tag:
badge:new) - Metafield-driven (best for control)
- Automated (e.g. "New within last 14 days")
Where badges should appear
- Product cards (collection/search)
- Optional: product page near title/price
Avoid placing badges everywhere.
"Coming soon" done right
If an item can't be purchased:
- Replace add-to-cart with "Notify me" (email capture)
- Make it obvious it's not available
- Avoid routing customers into a dead end
